HPC is not HTC

The HPC cluster is dedicated to users that are part of collaborations with pledged HPC resources.

CNAF users need to have an account from the HPC group to access these resources, it is not accessible via a experiment accounts.


If your use case has needs related to parallel computing, i.e. multinode-MPI or needs special computing resources such as Intel Manycore or NVIDIA GPUs, probably you may want to access the CNAF HPC cluster.
The cluster is powerful enough (2.91 PFlop/s) to be placed at the 437th place in the top500 ranking (November 2025).

This cluster is accessible via the SluRM Workload Manager which will be introduced hereafter.

In the following pages, few details on the account request and first access are given.
